In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting was my greatest learning experience: both professionally and personally.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
College Works Painting prepared me for everything in my role now. I use my communication and people skills everyday which is something that I learned through marketing and sales at College Works Painting. I was able to get through my learning curve in my new role a lot faster than most people do.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
The greatest lesson that I learned from College Works Painting was to always work hard and you will obtain your goals.
How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?
A lot of the people I met my intern year are now some of my best friends. A College Works Painting alum referred me to my current job and it allowed me to work remotely so that I could make a huge change and move to Minneapolis.
If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?
Work Hard, Play Hard
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Always keep the big picture in mind and do not be afraid of asking for help.
Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?
Learn all of the soft skills first and then you can learn the technical skills on the job.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
Never be afraid of rejection. You need to get back up ASAP.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
My favorite College Works Painting memory (aside from payrolls and Cancun) was the day Eli, Nate, Danny and I all received the three year tenure award at our OC banquet. The three of us were interns the same year and became DMs then GMs together. Our Fab Five (the four of us and our DM/VP Rob) picture from that day is one of my favorites.
Last words of wisdom?
Trust your DM. While sometimes they might be tough on you, they are doing it because they care.
