In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting was a huge opportunity for me to learn all aspects of a business.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
I landed an internship as a result of my time with College Works Painting and am now full-time employed with Allstate.
What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?
Thanks for the opportunity to let me work on your home! I only hope the opportunity was as rewarding for you as it was for me!
How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?
Matt Hill was a Groomsman in my wedding. He and I work very near each other and still continue our friendship today.
If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?
Everything is bigger in Texas.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Get a GOOD marketing team. Pay a premium price if you have to. Unless you really love cold-calling, you need someone to get your leads. Continuing to do all my own marketing was one of my greatest shortcomings because I didn’t have the energy left to do everything else I needed to do.
Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?
I think there are merits to both options. College Works Painting is an all around view of how to run a business. You will get an understanding of the operations and the financials. You will also gain “stories” to tell in your interview, which are invaluable.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
Show up early, work harder and smarter than everyone else, leave late.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
Training on one of my customers sites with the team.
Last words of wisdom?
Learn all that you can. Listen more than you speak. Don’t be afraid to fail, fail….and fail again. Sometimes it will feel like 100 no’s before you get the 1 yes, but the 1 yes was worth it.
