In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting gave me a foundation of work ethic and business that has aided me in gaining internships and success.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
College Works Painting gave me great experience and taught me how to be more confident in myself. I ended up getting an internship for the Summer of 2013 with Robert Bosch, LLC. and I attribute this partly to my experience at College Works Painting. The experience at Robert Bosch partly led to my internship offer at KPMG for next summer. Hopefully this turns into a full time job.
What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?
Phyllis Coulam: Phyllis was extremely nice and caring. She got into the project and was interested in learning about the different paints/stains we used. She wrote a fantastic recommendation letter, as well. She helped me learn that there are all different types of people to work with.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
Never give up!!
How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?
Pretty great so far! I’ve mainly been really close with Philip Vuong. This is because our territories in College Works Painting were adjacent. I can also reach out to Rob Lovato (my DM) whenever I want, so that’s nice.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
College Works Painting is a lot of work and will probably be the hardest few months of your life – but you will not regret it. You’ll leave the summer with hard-working and bright connections, as well as a boost in confidence, and some extra money.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
Meeting and marketing with a good friend I met from College Works Painting – Philip Vuong.
Last words of wisdom?
Although College Works Painting requires an insane amount of work for maybe not as much money as some people hope for, don’t do CWP for the money. What you learn from the program is far more valuable than the money you earn.
