College Works Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?

College Works Painting has built great skills that have turned into great habits.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

Yes, I have an extreme amount of urgency to handle situations when they arise. A lot of colleagues in my industry have a low sense of urgency, that I feel gives me an edge.

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

Zane (forget last name) 2007

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?

To think about an issue and find the most efficient way to tackle it, before jumping right in.

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?

College Works Painting allows you work on and hone in your skills as a young person. Your skills will shape who you become. These skills can only be learned through experience- no classroom can teach you that…and my degree is Education!

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

Everyone wants to be a CEO or top dog of some sorts. Even if you reach that level, you need essential business skills (sales, management, communication). You dont just wake up with them one day. It’s like a jump shot…you have to work at it until it’s as good as you can make it. And in today’s world, you need to be as prepared as possible, or someone hungrier will take your spot.

What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

In my industry each company has a specific way they like to do things. They will have no problems teaching you their ways. They wont teach you management. You either have that ability or you don’t. Plus, if you can’t manage or sell, then you’ll plateau. These skills are essential for you to be a true asset to a company.

Last words of wisdom?

This place is the single biggest factor to the skills I have today…and also my greatest network of great friendships I’ve built over the past 6 years. Most of what I have today would not be in my life if I didn’t go to that one class that one day.
