Brief Description of Duties / Responsibilities:
I currently work as an intellectual property attorney at McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. My practice covers many areas of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark litigation, counseling, and prosecution. I specialize in the areas of patent prosecution and counseling regarding medical devices, equipment, and methods of use including insulin injectors, stents, stent deployment devices, guidewires, occluders, drug infusion balloons, catheters, coronary filters, neurovascular surgical devices, bone implants, surgical equipment, and physical therapy devices. I also work in the fields of mechanical, electrical, and automotive technologies. My patent litigation experience spans an array of technologies, including blow molding equipment, foot sole inserts, medical devices, and telecommunications products. I also provide technological advice in support of freedom to operate, validity, non-infringement, and patentability analyses for a wide range of technologies, with a particular interest in the field of medical devices. I also maintain an active trademark prosecution practice, preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign trademark applications on behalf of clients worldwide.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
College Works Painting was a great resume builder and gave me a lot to talk about in interviews. Today, the experience of dealing with clients and setting expectations for clients has helped me in my job as an attorney.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
Under promise, and over deliver. It works with painting, it works in the legal field.

Push yourself out of your comfort zone, and the experience will be well worth it.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
Be ready to learn. Law school only teaches you so much, the real education occurs on the job.

Zero night Windsor. Tom and Andy know what I’m talking about.
