In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
I wouldn’t be living in Seattle or working for Starbucks without College Works Painting.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
I interned at Starbucks before accepting a full time offer to come back. I personally don’t believe that I would have been offered that Starbucks internship without College Works Painting. Therefore I wouldn’t be where I am now without having that first College Works Painting internship.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships. Starbucks is an extremely relationship based company. If I didn’t have these skills, working here would be a struggle.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Potential College Works Painting interns: Take the risk! You will be nervous and you will have people tell you what you’re are about to do is stupid, but take it from me it is well worth it. Current College Works Painting interns: Be sure to build a relationship with every person you meet. No matter if it is someone you just met or a booked client.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
It’s all about communication and building relationships. Something you will be forced to become good at through College Works Painting.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
Eating at the Japanese restaurant at the end of the season.
Last words of wisdom?
Don’t be afraid of someone telling you “no” and don’t be afraid to take a risk.
