In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting is the opportunity to understand how to be happy and successful on your own terms.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
My history with College Works Painting allowed my resume to wear the suit. When I mention my accomplishments in the program, it’s nearly impossible to be turned away from an interview.
What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?
Thank you for trusting me with the responsibility to be an effective leader of a crew working on your home; without that experience I never would’ve become who I am now.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
The world isn’t out to keep people from getting what they want, but it also doesn’t reward laziness.
How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?
4 people I met in College Works Painting have become my business partners. I dated 1 girl I met in CWP and I made 7 lifelong friends. With whom, I’ve gone on 2 more tropical vacations.
If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?
College Works Painting: for those who study, for those who perform, and ultimately, for those who matter.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Your peers in College Works Painting are the absolute best people to start a business venture with. You’ll also quickly gain more respect for them than for your drinking buddies, so make a point to hold onto the people you meet in the program.
Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?
Almost none will pay you and College Works Painting actually does pay those who finish the program quite well. Secondly, it’s the most challenging internship you will find anywhere which means it’ll teach you more and you’ll feel more accomplished than with any other options you might be considering.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
In the world of business, you are only as important as the results you can create. Wanting and striving mean nothing. Doing is the only thing that matters. So make it happen, no matter what.
What’s your favorite memory from CW?
The 1st time I earned an all-expenses-paid vacation with my coworkers. Cancun is incredible!
Last words of wisdom?
“Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” – I can’t express how true this is, so try as many new experiences as you can NOW, before you grow older and finally have something to lose.
