In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?
College Works Painting showed me that I have the ability to run my own company by doing everything necessary to own a company, while also showing me what I was good and what I should hire people for.
How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?
Immediately after graduation I had the opportunity to work for a sister start up company of College Works Painting, Home Genius Exteriors.
What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?
Ms. Victor. Was a 12k sale that I had to bring the divorced husband over and convince him to spend the money so the wife could sell the house. Closed them on the spot and during the paint job Ms. Victor made us dinner every evening and wrote a note after completion to show how much she appreciated everything we did.
What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?
Don’t give up. The more you do, the more likely you are to make a mistake – but mistakes are how you learn and become better.
How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?
Because of College Works Painting I met the most influential people who helped me become who I am today. Some of my best friends and best mentors.
Advice
What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?
Don’t quit, it’s meant to be difficult. No one grows or becomes better while they’re comfortable. You’ll need to do things that push the boundary of what you think you’re capable of.
Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?
Before College Works Painting I couldn’t get an interview. After College Works Painting I had people begging me to work for them. Having this on your resume sets you apart because companies want people with a variety of different skills. College Works Painting gives you all of the skills from marketing and sales, to management and accounting.
What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?
Work hard, jump head first to apply what you’re learning and don’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way. Anyone who doesn’t make mistakes is someone destined for mediocrity.
Last words of wisdom?
If you think it will be hard, do it. If it will make you uncomfortable, do it. Don’t quit, just jump head first and figure it out.
