I am very pleased to offer my enthusiastic recommendation for Connor Anderson, whom I came to know when he managed the painting of my home in Minneapolis, MN, through College Works Painting.
I was genuinely impressed by Connor’s work ethic, professionalism, character, and ability to take on significant responsibility at such a young age. I initially had modest expectations when I agreed to consider having a college student manage the project of painting my home. Connor and his team far exceeded those expectations—not only in the quality of their work, but in the way they handled an unusually demanding project.
My home turned out to be a far more complicated painting project than anyone could have anticipated. It required an extraordinary amount of detailed labor, extensive caulking and sealing repairs, numerous touch-ups, and substantial additional work that emerged as the project progressed. Much of the work also had to be performed in punishing summer heat, on tall ladders and on rooftops. It was the kind of project that could easily have become frustrating or overwhelming.
Connor handled it remarkably well. He worked exceptionally hard every day, from arranging early-morning paint pickups and deliveries to coordinating multiple crews and projects, adjusting schedules and workloads, troubleshooting problems, communicating with clients, and stepping in to do the physical work himself when necessary. At the same time, he successfully managed a diverse group of peers and navigated the expectations of clients considerably older than he was.
I am a professional in my late forties, and I have had plenty of opportunities to observe people in demanding work environments. I was particularly struck by the maturity and professionalism Connor demonstrated at only twenty years old. He consistently remained composed, pragmatic, attentive, and solution-focused, even when circumstances became difficult. His judgment and demeanor were more impressive than those of many people I have encountered who were decades older and considerably more experienced.
As my project became increasingly involved, Connor also demonstrated an unusual degree of conscientiousness and personal accountability. The additional repair work, materials, and labor meant that the project ultimately became much more demanding than originally anticipated. Through no one’s fault, it also became less financially favorable than his original projections. Nevertheless, Connor never allowed those setbacks to diminish his commitment to doing the job properly. He continued to hold himself, his crew, and the finished product to a very high standard. What impressed me most was that his commitment to doing excellent work did not seem dependent on the project being easy or convenient for him.
I was also impressed by Connor’s ability to manage people. Leading a group of peers is difficult under any circumstances, particularly at his age, but I watched him handle the role with patience and thoughtfulness. He earned my respect not simply by working hard himself, but by taking responsibility for the people and work around him.
Connor and his crew ultimately produced an excellent result, and they treated my home with care throughout the process. I have received numerous compliments from neighbors about how well the house turned out, and I could not be happier with the finished work.
I have no doubt that Connor will continue to grow professionally and take on increasingly significant responsibilities. Based on what I observed firsthand, I would be very comfortable recommending him for future professional opportunities and would be happy to provide a strong personal reference on his behalf.
