Owning a business that helped save my family from homelessness.

College Works Career Impact

In one sentence, what has CW meant to you?

It gave me my start to entrepreneurship. I have been a business owner, outside of my job, for a decade now.

How did your CW experience impact your career? Immediately after graduation? Now?

It jump started my leadership, networking, management, and skills in communication. Mainly of the jobs I have I may have applied for, but I always had an in or my skills gave me the in from meeting people out and about

What do you want to tell your clients about what it meant to work with them and how it has helped you get to where you are today?

I have very many top clients, but my favorite had to be my first not client but lead. I remember looking at a brick house thinking it wasn’t worth knocking on. Well turns out they had a ton of trim and invited me into their home. I still think about that couple to this day among a handful of others.

What was the greatest lesson you learned from your CW experience?

Treat people the way you want to be treated, it doesn’t matter how long you have known someone. They can tell if you’re being genuine or not

How have the friendships and networks you built during CW affected you?

I have taken fun trips with people outside of College Works Painting, it has been years and I have gone to weddings and everything in between for those I have built relationships with well after.

If you had to come up with a one line slogan for CW, what would it be?

Work Hard, Play Hard…but not too hard lol

Advice

What advice do you have for potential CW participants? Current CW participants?

It’s worth in the end, however anything fought building will never come easy.

Many college students struggle to choose between an internship specific to their target industry or doing CW. What advice would you give them on this subject if they wanted to enter your career field?

You will need to be able to sell yourself and this type of opportunity is so unique and goes a long way.

What’s your best advice for someone interested in entering your career field?

Networking is everything.

What’s your favorite memory from CW?

Being able to swim with dolphins and Nurse Sharks in Cancun.

Last words of wisdom?

It’s okay to fall forward, what makes the difference of those who’re successful is the ones who get back up.
